When you go to use Advanced Search, do you find yourself wondering how or where to build your keyword search? At the top left of the screen you see Keyword Search and to the right you also see Keywords. Confusing? I thought so! Let’s clear up the confusion and take a closer look at the functions of each search box.

Keyword Searchat the top left will search every metadata field in the entire database. You can also combine it with a field specific search. For example, you can type “sapphire jewelry” in the Keyword Searchbox and also type in “GIA” in the Copyright Holder field. That should bring up every image of sapphire jewelry that has a GIA copyright.

Keywords: searches only the keyword metadata field in the entire database. If you type in a string of terms in this box, it will only search those terms if they appear in the Keywordsfield. For instance, if you were to type in diamond platinum jewelryin the Keywords field, that would bring up any assets that had those words appearing in that particular field. That may not give you all the relevant results, depending on how the asset was cataloged, but it could narrow your results substantially.

Oh, by the way, do you see New Search at the top center of the screen with a Go button? It has the same functionality as Keyword Search, and it appears at the top of every single page!
